An Easy Book-Inspired Craft for Kids: Pete The Cat, I Love My White Shoes

This post may contain referral/affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.

One of the very first books that Anakin was introduced to at school was, Pete the Cat- I Love My White Shoes. This was also my first introduction to this book character and I can see why kids are so easily drawn into these books. The books are great for children just learning to read because of its rhythmical and predictable text. Pete’s positive attitude is great for encouraging resiliency and Pete’s blue color just gives off chill vibes. Ruby can read this book beginning to end and is among one of her favorites too. So, in honor of one of our favorite books, we decided to do an easy craft inspired by it.

What you’ll need:

– construction paper: white, blue (for Pete’s face), yellow (for Pete’s eyes), and other color (for Pete’s shoes)

– scissors

– glue or glue stick

– blue paint

And that’s basically it! Pretty easy huh? Instructions are easy too. Just paint your child’s hand and make sure they are spreading their fingers apart when stamping the white construction paper. Make sure to leave enough room for Pete’s head. Let dry. Cut out Pete’s face shape and eyes and draw in the eyes with a black marker (just write the letter “U”). Turn the handstamp upside down so that the pinky finger is the tail. Glue the finished face on the body. Then cut out the shoes and glue on the feet. Let dry. Last steps (optional) cut Pete out and glue on a different color construction paper. Then draw in the whiskers. And tadaaaaaa …. all done! My kids want to make one for each color of the rainbow now.
